Community Development Model

The Community Development Model (CDM) is an AmPark Foundation project that pioneers the transition to new, exciting and profitable climate-resilient cottage industries at community level.  The CDM is designed to be a replicable model of how one community can achieve greater quality of life, prosperity and climate resilience through more efficient utilization of available natural and human resources within the community. It is our ambition to train volunteer teams from up to 10,000 rural villages in 10 years, positively impacting the social, environmental and economic standing of more than 5 million people.

This livelihood development and environmental sustainability model requires the active participation, engagement and empowerment of people in rural communities, particularly those vulnerable to climate change.

AmPark Foundation firmly believes in the industrious nature of Sri Lankans and their desire to improve themselves and their children’s prospects through their own efforts.

“Give a Man a Fish and You Feed Him for a Day , Teach a Man to Fish and You Feed Him for Life”

Whilst charity and donations are essential in emergencies, these are an unsustainable approach to poverty alleviation, food security, countering climate change and long-term livelihood development.  Donations also do not contribute to the productivity of our nation, at the community, regional or national level.

Our CDM is a very different solution.  We partner with local communities, empowering them with the knowledge, tools, capabilities and funding to uplift themselves.  We maximize the human and natural resources available so greater self-sufficiency, environmental sustainability, enhanced education and individual prosperity can be created without excessive capital expenditure.

Our 10-year CDM program will create self-sustainable, climate-resilient villages across Sri Lanka, and help our country capture the opportunities climate change presents to drive community, regional, national and international prosperity and growth.
